Serial #8111 which indicates an early 1981 manufacture date near the end of the Maxwell period at Leonard. Medium fast action (I loved the feel of this one when I put it together, it has that "Ooooh, I'd love to fish this" kind of feel). Flamed cane in 3 up node pattern, dark garnet wraps (it's actually a light purple color before varnish) and a maroon edge at the keeper and male ferrules. Three windaways at the keeper and male ferrules as well. The step ferrules have been oxidized to the correct "pewter" color these rods were known for. Keeper on the wrap flat as well as the serial number. The reverse is labelled "Hunt 40-6". Superb varnish. The rod has a 6 1/2" 13 cork slim cigar grip and a curly maple spacer and aluminum up lock screw lock reel seat. The unitary nut is stamped "H.L.Leonard Rod Co, the Rod Maker, since 1869" in cartouche. The plastic is still on the grip and the guides have no sign of any brassing, indicating that this rod may have not even been lawn cast. Comes with correct tan bag and a brass tip aluminum tube. A real beauty, this one.
