(Preface) 'At Knoll, good design is more than a marketing or manufacturing tool: it is the essence of what makes us unique. This truth extends beyond the design of our products and systems, to Knoll graphics as well. You, as a Knoll associate, are part of a tradition that includes many of the greatest names in 20th-century design.

The purpose of this manual is to establish a structure that will help you continue that tradition. Using this book as a guide, you won't have to reinvent the basics every time you sit down to create a sign, letterhead or form. As appropriate, you can focus on the more important creative issues instead, applying the same kind of thoughtful design that has distinguished Knoll products for over 50 years.

The connection may be obvious, as in highly visible advertisements, catalogues or brochures that present Knoll products directly. But even a shipping label or a directional sign says something important about the organization that produced it. We want everyone we deal with to see that the Knoll name means consistently high standards of design. To achieve this, it's essential that each form of graphic communication reinforces that message.
